When You Want to Hide Away from the World

This year has started out with a bang. Is it just me, or does it seem like the end of the world as we know it? (Cue the REM song here.). I am incredibly tired of all the anger and crazy behavior from people who refuse to concede that they can’t always have it their way. If ever there was a time you want to hide away from the world, this is most certainly it. Nowhere feels safe anymore.

I don’t feel safe, but I trust I am secure in God’s care. I know that I shouldn’t listen to my erratic feelings. My feelings lie. I need to rest in what I know is true:

God remains faithful.

God stands firm. His Truth never changes.

God is seated on the throne no matter who is in the White House or what I see on the 6’oclock news.

My Heavenly Father rules over all. He speaks louder than all the chaos, and He sovereignly controls my future. I am always safe in HIs mighty hands.

Over the weekend, I got a series of frantic texts from a sweet family member who wanted to make sure I was “informed” about current events. I actually glanced down at her first text and just deleted it without responding — because I refuse to listen to the voice of fear. I don’t need to know the “latest” because I follow the King of Kings.

Nevertheless, my persistent relative sent a series of follow up messages the next morning. I read them and then responded by reminding her that greater is He who lives in me than he who is in the world. The arm of flesh cannot overcome the power of the Spirit. Fear is not the boss of me.

I don’t need to hide away from the world because my life is hidden in Christ.

Friend, are you unsettled by the current state of our crazy world? Don’t forget you have a firm foundation. Your God has not forgotten you. The Lord has hemmed you in behind and before, and He has laid His hand upon you. You are safely sheltered under the shadow of His wing.

Faith in God’s perfect love casts out fear. Let’s hide His Word of Truth in our hearts to overcome all the doubt we are fighting in this most uncertain season.

3 Truths to Encourage Your Heart When You Want to Hide Away from the World:

God’s goodness and love always overpower the wicked plots of man.

God will never leave us nor forsake us. His shalom is our shelter from all the lies of the enemy. The presence of our Heavenly Father fills us with peace in a world full of discord and unpleasant words.

  • Oh, how abundant is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You and worked for those who take refuge in You, in the sight of the children of mankind!  In the cover of Your presence You hide them from the plots of men; You store them in Your shelter from the strife of tongues. Blessed be the Lord, for He has wondrously shown His steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city.” (Psalm 31:19-21)

Your Deliverer promises to guide your steps and surround you with protection.

The way ahead may seem unclear, but we do not walk alone. Step by step, God will show us how to move forward and make a way where there seems to be no way. Our all-knowing Father watches over our journey and will help us overcome all the obstacles we may encounter.

  • You are a hiding place for me; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you” (Psalm 32:7-8)

God’s Word serves as Your Hope and Shield and keeps you secure.

No matter how unsettled this world may seem, we can live with a holy confidence because we have the solid foundation of God’s Word under our feet. When we arm ourselves with the Truth today, He fills us with hope for tomorrow. Anticipation for God’s plan replaces anxiety over our problems.

  • You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” (Psalm 119:114)

Our soul is safe because the Guardian of our lives will shelter us under His protective care until He returns to claim His own. Until then, let’s resolve to rest in His constant care. The world may seem crazy and filled with chaos, but God will set everything right at the right time.

When we hide our lives in Christ, we stand secure.

  1. I agree with you that this year is off to a crazy start. I really have to watch how much news I consume as well, because it can be toxic to my soul. I read enough to stay informed, but I can’t stay in constant touch with everything going on or I’d go crazy myself. My One Word for this year is Uncertainty, and it is already proving to be true. ha. But like you said, we CAN depend on the certainty of God’s faithfulness! He is carrying us through.

  2. This year and last have been like no other I have ever experienced. It’s unsettling except for the fact that God knows all about it, it hasn’t taken Him by surprise, and He provides His grace and strength for us. I have to continually turn my mind away from the current stat of the world to the truths of the unseen one.

    1. I am so thankful that I know He is omniscient and present in every circumstance. He reigns, no matter what my feelings may be telling me. I am secure in His hands.

  3. Such a great post, Lyli! “I don’t need to hide away from the world because my life is hidden in Christ.” And that is such a powerful truth that we must continue to remember. Thank you for sharing and thank you for hosting! Blessings to you! ????????
