When You Need to Know This Too Shall Pass

When You Need to Know This Too Shall Pass

Some days, the turmoil crashes in like unrelenting waves, and you feel like you are going to drown. It’s hard to stay standing when the ground underneath you gives way. You want to tell yourself the trouble is just temporary and “this too shall pass,” but you are too busy gasping for air to remember.

This was exactly what happened at my house last week. Within a one-hour period, we were mercilessly hammered by several pieces of distressful news in succession. My spiritual radar went up immediately because I recognized the flood as evidence of spiritual warfare. So, I stood up in the middle of my living room and  shouted, “Devil, get out of my house.”

I am hoping this season of suffering will soon pass, but in the meantime, I just need to stay prayed up and persevere.

How about you, friend? Maybe like me you are stuck at home with an ever=increasing level of obstacles that are overwhelming. You can perceive the turbulent storm is growing stronger, and you feel powerless to stop it.

If you are up late at night and unable to sleep because you fear you will sink and not recover from this season of uncertainty, you are not alone.  We are all wondering how we will pay the mortgage, wishing we could get back to normal, and worried that COVID won’t ever give us our life back. We are all battling loneliness, anxiety, depression, and hopelessness on some level.

This morning, a very wise woman encouraged me to stop listening to the voice of fear. To survive this crisis, I must stop constantly envisioning my catastrophe. I need to remind myself that God existed before all things, and He holds all things together.

Friend, God has not forgotten you. The God of Salvation is always supernaturally at work to rescue us from the darkness. We just need to.be still before Him and wait patiently for His timing.

Quiet your heart today and resolve to remember this truth: Your Savior will not pass you by.  God is always present in your life, and He will protect you.

“This Too Shall Pass” Because God Fights for You

Your Father hears your humble cry.

Abba is carefully attentive to your whispered prayers bathed in tears, and He always responds with compassion. Every time. you turn to Him, you can trust He will surround you with His support.

  • “Lord, you know and understand all the hopes of the humble and will hear their cries and comfort their hearts, helping them all!” (Psalm 10:17, TPT)

God’s throne of mercy is your sweet relief.

When we are exhausted and feel like we can’t take another step, we can run to Jesus and find the encouragement we need. He will supply us with His mercy and  strength to help us keep going when we are weary.

  • “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16, NLT)

The Lord will heal your wounded spirit.

Our brokenness is not beyond repair. God will create something beautiful out of the shattered pieces of your life if you lay your all on the altar.

  • “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds–healing their pain and comforting their sorrow.” (Psalm 147:3, AMP)

His Word is your comfort.

God’s promises are life-giving and will sustain you through this time of adversity. Regarding His Truth will restore your soul and increase your faith.

  • “This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me and given me life.” (Psalm 119:50, ESV)

The Almighty is the strength of  your heart.

The Rock of Ages is our refuge, and we will not be shaken. When His Truth is our firm foundation, He undergirds us with His power and fills us with His hope.

  • “Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the Rock and Strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:25-26,AM))

Today as I sat down to write these words, the Lord reminded me about a hymn we used to sing in church back when I first gave my life to Christ. I googled the title and found this beautiful version of “Pass Me Not , O Gentle Savior” that was good for my soul. I just couldn’t resist sharing it with you.

God is Fighting for You Scriptures

One day, we will look back at this season and see how God has supernaturally established us and empowered us for a greater work in this broken world. As we lean on His strength, He will make us whole, secure, and empower us to move forward with greater faith. He has promised that after we suffer a while He will ground us, build us up, and set us firmly in place. (See I Peter 5:10)

Friend, Jesus has promised us the victory, and as we trust Him we will stand out as bright lights. Like a lighthouse, our lives will point the lost to salvation. We are “here to be light, bringing out out the God colors” in the world. (Matthew 5:16, MSG)

Keep the faith. Our temporary troubles today are preparing us for an eternal glory beyond compare tomorrow.

  1. I’m thankful you had a wise friend to encourage you to stop listening to the voice of fear. I often need to remind myself of that. I pray for God’s grace and strength for the things you are going through.

  2. Whenever my circumstances seem overwhelming, I hear the voice of Elisabeth Elliot in my ear, asking, “Did you imagine that there was a refining fire that was not hot?”
And of course, he has promised that the flame will not kindle upon us, but sometimes, the fire sure seems to be raging!
Trusting along with you for grace to weather the uncertainty of these days.

  3. You are so right Lyli, each of us is trudging our way through this uncertain time in very different ways. Some days are good and other days are just a mess, but God! Thanks for this reminder: God existed before all things, and He holds all things together. Yes, he does. He’s holding all of us together and yes, this too will pass. Love that rendition of pass me not o gentle savior, hear my humble cry, while on others thou art calling, do not pass me by. I’ve been listening to a lot of old hymns that grip my soul and get me through.

  4. Lyli, in the course of my life, I have often said, “This too shall pass.” And this will as well. In the meantime, may we keep our eyes on Jesus, the one who will guide us through and bring it to pass. Praying for the Lord to deposit into you and Bruce ALL that you need today! {{hugs}}

    1. thanks, friend. When Bruce read the title of this post, he asked if I was writing about kidney stones. (My comedian!).

  5. Your post is sprinkled with empowering passages. There is nothing better to heal our aching souls during this unprecedented season but the word. You hit on several of my sustaining verses. My grandmother was born in 1918 around the time of the Spanish flu pandemic. I wonder what passages were comforting to my great-grandmother who had several small children and an infant and an alcoholic husband who worked in the coal mines. They survived those challenging times and their relationship with God was strengthened. We too will survive. It is time to hold on to those passages more tightly until we get to the other side.

  6. I pray that during this storm that is raging all around you, that in your spirit God will empower you to live in the eye of this hurricane, in the place of peace and stillness. I also pray that all weapons formed against you will be brought to nothing and that God’s miraculous intervention and provision will be clearly seen on your behalf.
