When You Want to Hide from the World

Ever feel like you want to hide from the world? It was the middle of an unexpectedly hard day, and suddenly I had an irresistible urge to go into my bedroom, lock the door, and get under the covers.

(I may have also craved double stuff Oreos, but I ate all of those in March after we went on COVID lockdown.)

I stood in the middle of my living room and gave myself a pep talk. No, Lyli. You cannot hide from all of your problems.

I will press on.

I will pray big.

I will praise loud.

I am putting on my big girl pants. I will persevere.

How about you, friend? Is your soul weary? Are you looking for a way out? Do you wish you could disappear for a bit and not have to worry about all the impossible situations in your life? Believe me, I totally get it. I am tired of fighting battles I can’t seem to ever win. And this has been the hardest year ever to stay hopeful.

I may have a lot of crazy problems right now, but my God is constantly present. I know He faithfully provides. I can trust He always prevails.

Here is what the Lord whispered to me this week: You just need to stop trying to fix everything yourself. When you strive on your own, you will always end up exhausted.

On those days when my anxiety level is high, I need to remember that God is my hiding place.

The safest place in the world is when we stand in the circle of God’s protective embrace. We can seek the Lord and let Him be our stronghold. He is strong when we are weak.

When You Want to Hide from the World

Run to the Lord and make Him your Refuge.

The enemy of our soul wants us to cower in fear and live consumed by doubt. He wants us to live defeated lives, but we have a warrior God who has promised us to deliver us. The Lord Himself has promised to protect us and be our personal hiding place. In Him we find safety and support. In His presence, we gain strength and security.

  • “…surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him. You are a hiding place for me; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:6-8, ESV)

Fear not the unknown because your faithful God will always uplift you.

Remember you are on the winning team. With God on your side, you will not be overthrown no matter what obstacles you may be facing. Any defeat you experience today is just a temporary setback. God will shield you on every side from the enemy’s onslaught. Your Defender will raise you above all discouragement and darkness.

  • Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear… For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble… And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me…” (Psalm 27:3, 5,6)

Fix your mind on an eternal view and stop minding what the earthly values.

Our story is not finished yet, and God has promised us a spectacular ending. Let’s purpose to press in to Jesus and persevere in what pleases Him. It’s a daily decision to die to self and surrender all to the Lord. Our journey with God is a marathon, not a sprint. Jesus is at the finish line, and heaven awaits. Keep your eyes on the prize, not on your problems.

  • Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ Who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” (Colossians 3:2-3, ESV)

  1. Going through a heart breaking trial right now with a severed friendship, (not by my choice, but my friend’s). As if this year couldn’t get more challenging, now it’s personal and devastating. In life’s valleys I know the truths you shared are my lifeline.
