You Stand Secure

“Change the channel,” my husband commanded. I’d turned on the news to listen to the weather report, but instead violent images splashed across the screen as the reporter outlined a dark night of terror. My face was furrowed with anxiety as I sat paralyzed by the news.
We live in a fallen world where pain and trouble wreak havoc. I am beginning to understand why 3 million adults are diagnosed with Agoraphobia each year in the United States alone. With death and destruction happening in unexpected places like airports and soccer stadiums, part of me wants to hide under the bed permanently. Is it safe to travel anywhere in today’s world?
When fear seeks to swallow up my faith, I often turn to the Psalms. David was a warrior who did not lay his head on a soft pillow of comfort. He faced trouble every day of his life, but rather than wallow in constant despair, he cried out to his Omnipotent God. David believed that His Defender would envelop him with strength and protection in the midst of the onslaught. He didn’t look to the future with trepidation because he looked back and remembered how God had safely carried him on every step of his journey.
Matthew Henry captured the truth of this Psalm perfectly: “Those that with a holy reverence fear God need not with any amazement to be afraid of the power of hell or earth.” In the New Testament, we see how Paul faced severe persecution and affliction during his entire ministry, but he boldly moved forward trusting that God would go before him and deliver him. Paul did not allow fear to paralyze him from marching ahead victoriously and partnering with God to share the Good News.
With God’s help, we always have a firm ground to stand on in this unstable world. Psalms 112:17-18 says, “Surely the righteous will never be shaken, they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”
Come what may, you stand secure today in the circle of God’s protection.
Let’s Talk: How has God’s overcoming power helped you through a stormy season?

Psalm 46:1 is one of my favorites. A perfect reminder that we can rest in Him because we are secure regardless of the world circumstances or our own. Thank you for sharing your heart!
“Come what may, you stand secure today in the circle of God’s protection.” This is such a good reminder! I usually try to read a Psalm before I sleep every night. There is so much comfort and strength to be found there! Thank you for pointing our hearts to the One who watches over us all! (I’m your neighbor over at #TellHisStory) –Blessings to you.
Yes! God is always firm ground. I only wish I felt it in the midst of things. Sometimes unplugging from the barrage of information overload is the best thing I can do to remind myself that God is still God and He is always good.
When my mother died last year, followed by my best friend only three months later, He never left me. It was a terrible time, but there was joy because He was with me. This the the first of several posts I wrote about the experience. I ma sharing only to help anyone who may need this encrouagement: Visting you fromThe Journeys in Grace link up.<3

Lyli -such a great reminder any time but especially recently with the things that have been happening in the world. I hate the news and avoid it as much as possible – so I missed the horrific news until a few days later when someone told me about it. thank you for reminding us where we stand – God is surely our firm foundation we are neighbors at 2 places today #FaithFilledFriday & #FaithandFriends
Our God is the only strength to squelch our fears! You are so right … our world is scary and fear could control us. But God.
Thanks, friend, for this beautiful reminder of the hope we have in Christ! And thank you so much for helping me saturate Mondays with His hope at Moments of Hope!
Hugs,
Lori
These words hit deep, “He didn’t look to the future with trepidation because he looked back and remembered how God had safely carried him on every step of his journey.” I must remember to put all my trust in our sovereign God, long before I get wrapped up in devastating news. He is our refuge! Thank you for this reminder and for sharing with us!
Your timely words and prayer from Psalm 112 is just what we need to hear. Trusting that we are secure in Christ and knowing it is something I continue to work on. Not because I don’t believe but because the world works hard to make us think differently. I am joining you in prayer for our world and believing as David did years ago, that we stand secure in Christ. Blessings!
“With God’s help, we always have a firm ground to stand on in this unstable world.” AMEN! God is always with us and will give us the strength to stand for and with Him. Blessings to you, Lyli! Thanks for this encouraging word today.
I also turn to the Psalms when fear is screaming for a place in my heart. The truth of your message is comforting. Thankful every day that God is our firm ground to stand on, He will never leave us, and He will always fight for us! So blessed to have you a part of Fresh Market Friday! Crystal~
Lyli!
I love Psalms, too! 🙂 And Matthew Henry always has a way of opening up His Word for me in a beautiful way. I think too, that the way we can be encouraged in the fearful moments is to remember that His is always with us, walking through the difficult. That is our encouragement, that we are never really alone, and even though trouble comes He is still our continual protector.
It is so easy to be overcome by fear, but He has already over come the world. Praise God!
Thanks for sharing this at the #GraceMoments Link up last week. I am so thankful for you.
Blessings,
