Tuckered Out

I’m tuckered out.

Thanksgiving sucked the life out of me.  I can’t seem to keep my eyes open.

So, today I worked from home and wore my PJ’s all day long.

PJ’s for the win.

Sometimes, you just need to slow down and make time for some serious soul care.

5 Things that Revive My Tuckered Out Soul

  • Napping on Sunday afternoons: It’s okay to take a nap.  Really, it is. My friend Lolita gave me this lovely sleep mask that helps me black out the world, and I’ve also discovered that Lavender essential oil on my feet gets me in the mood.
  • Singing loudly with my Husband: We like to get in the car and drive to nowhere with the radio on the oldies station.  Trust me you will feel better after two verses of “I’ve Had the Time of My Life.
  • Laughing with a friend: My friend Barby came over on Friday, and we took turns sharing all the crazy things our Cuban relatives said on Thanksgiving.  I showed her the video of my dad dancing solo in his Donald Trump outfit.  It’s good to giggle with a good gal pal.
  • Reading a good book: Right now I am reading John Maxwell’s 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.  It’s full of inspiring proverbs like this one on page 32:  “Nobody ever got ready by waiting.  You only get ready by starting.”  I’d also like to suggest Dolly Lee’s book 7 Days of Soulcare (more details on this sweet read at the end of this post.)
  • Counting My Blessings: Every year in November, I make a list of what I am thankful for from A to Z. I’ve shared each day on my Facebook page.  Last year, Bruce and I took time to jot a few blessings down every Sunday, and we put them into a jar.  Now, we are on year two of this journey.  Our plan is to take revisit one week of blessings from last year’s jar every Sunday, and then  add new blessings to the jar for next year.  I am so excited about this!

Are you tuckered out?  Take time to do what makes your soul happy.

  1. “I’ve Had The Time of My Life” is the song my Dad picked for us to dance to at my wedding. Thanks for a little spin down memory lane this morning! And Dolly’s book sounds fantastic – off to check it out! Hoping you got the rest you needed and are recharged to march into Advent! Blessings!!

  2. Lyli, I can identify with tuckered out this year. My mom fell and broke her hip while we were in California visiting her. So we spent Thanksgiving Eve in the emergency room and then the next few days mostly at the hospital with little sleep. I came home to repack and get ready to go back for a month or so. Praying you got the rest and refreshment you needed. Thanks for hosting.

  3. The phrase “tuckered out” in our house has special significance because we have a St. Bernard named Tucker, and when he’s “tuckered out” we sprawls his huge self all over the floor and snores loudly.
    I’m tempted to join him!

  4. I love how you intentionally did things to renew you, Lyli. That’s wise. I’ve been feeling stressed this week, like I don’t have time to slow down. But that’s not true, so I’ll try to be more intentional today, too, about giving my spirit time to breathe, even in the midst of things I’m doing.

  5. I was pretty tuckered out after Thanksgiving and several birthdays the same week and company on top of that. I love your suggestions and agree totally that we need to take time out for ourselves and be refreshed esp. after such a busy time.

    Blessings to you, Lyli!

  6. Such truth!
I got so sick at the beginning of this week. At first, I began to worry about the income I would lack missing out on sub jobs this week …but as the week has rolled on, I know why rest was in order. God is so good.
    Happy Thursday!

  7. Great tips, Lyli! Your dad is a riot! I love it when you share about your sweet family! You always bring a smile to my day. Have a blessed week, friend!

  8. Great to restore yourself in so many ways. The Holidays should be quieter than they are. Thanks for hosting. I am new to your party and writing about Jesus.

  9. Lyli,

I love your list, especially the idea of reviewing your gratitude blessings with your husband 🙂 Thanks so much for featuring my book and helping bring attention to International Justice Mission’s rescue work. So honored. Thank you, my kind friend <3

P.S. Sorry for the delay; I've been working on final seminary papers and our furnace broke etc. and my friend had a fundraiser to help The Home of New Beginnings.
