When You Need a Transformation Tool to Make Progress
On Friday, my crabby atttitude resurrected.
My employer requires me to work twice a year on Friday evenings, and although I smiled on the outside, I whined loudly on the inside.
The good news was that Maria decorated the tables and put Hershey’s kisses in a little bowl right in front of me. Chocolate makes everything just a little bit more bearable.
I sat mesmerized by the bowl of candy delight until the seminar speaker grabbed my undivided attention by expanding upon one word on his handout.
Recommendations
“I ask my students to craft a list of recommendations,” he said. His goal was for the learner to apply the content to life. How will what I have learned change how I live?
He went on to explain that the implications were two-fold:
- Intrapersonal: How will this impact my commitments, my values, my desires, and my thoughts?
- Interpersonal: How will this impact my relationship with my family, my co-workers, my church, my community, and the world?
Then, he turned around and wrote 4 words on the board.
“I could apply this to my Bible reading,” I immediately thought. Just like that, my speaker friend and the Holy Spirit partnered to provide me a tool for transformation.
4-Part Transformation Tool:
- START: What will I invest in?
- STOP: What is holding me back?
- CHANGE: What needs improvement?
- CONTINUE: What makes my heart come alive?

I love that you’re applying what you learn from work to your spiritual life and sharing it with us. Stop, Start. Change. Continue. π
Best faculty meeting ever! π
This analytical approach is very helpful. Sometimes we just need to bypass how we feel about something and let God help us to change.
heart and mind. Maybe a little of both. What do you think?
A good question for each day: “Open up the Word of Life and ask yourself
what God is recommending for your day.” Love how the Lord guides us through His word, and how neat that you were able to transfer work in the natural to growth in the spiritual, Lyli.
Thanks, Kristi. I actually started using the 4 words today in my journal after my quiet time. Just wrote a quick action point next to each one in reference to my day and the verse I claimed from today’s reading. It was quick and easy, and I am excited about how this may help me be more intentional in my walk.
I love how God can use what we’re learning in one setting and transfer it to good use for another setting. He’s awesome like that! π He wants to keep our time in the Word fresh, yes? Thanks for sharing this, Lyli.
He is awesome like that — and He showed up despite my negative Nellie attitude about having to work on a Friday night. Grace upon grace.
Well, that’s definitely thought provoking. π Thanks for the worksheet. π And, thanks for hosting the linkup today, Lyli. ((grace upon grace))
Ah … the power of just a few simple questions. Love that worksheet, Lyli!
thanks, friend
I loved the questions you used at the end of your series on Single Women in the church.
Love this, gal! I have to hop out of my head and hide in His pages OFTEN…or I forget about what sets my soul on fire. Love this post!
Happy Thursday!!!

This is so great! Thanks for sharing!
