Tranquility in Turbulent Times

Discussing current events gives me heartburn. We live in turbulent times.

We’re facing racial discord, radical terrorism, and a presidential race reminiscent of a Three Stooges episode.

In a world of “He who screams loudest wins,” I find myself wishing for a mute button.

Thankfully, I know that there is a Voice that thunders above all others. His powerful Word demolishes pride and deception. His Truth reverberates in desolate places and dismantles strongholds.

No scheme will knock my Champion off the throne.

His mighty arms envelop me with strength and peace today.

Fear not the unknown tomorrow, my friends.

Even when the wind blows fiercely, you will stand secure in His embrace.

How to Find Tranquility in Troubled Times:

  • Turn down the noise: Unplug from the worldly chatter and connect to your power source.
    • “Be still and know that He is God” (Psalms 46:11).
  • Tune in to Truth: Renew your mind to thwart the enemy’s lies.
    • “Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
  • Tend to your soul: Remember His faithfulness and count your blessings.
    • “Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things He does for me” (Psalm 103:2, NLT).

Something to think about…

  1. I needed to read this today. I ran an errand in the car and made the mistake of listening to talk radio discussing the upcoming election. Talk about robbing me of my peace! I’m so thankful that God has the final word, He’s still in control and He is our firm foundation when this world is shaking.

  2. Oh, I’m with you in the search for the mute button! But your words today are better than a mute button, because we can hear all the chaos, and find peace in Christ.

  3. Thank you fro hosting! I especially loved “In a world of β€œHe who screams loudest wins,” I find myself wishing for a mute button.” So true!! Thanks for the great thoughts to start my day.

  4. Lyli, this is so timely! With all the craziness going on in the world, we all need to learn peace in the midst of the chaos. I love your 3 T’s and how you backed them up with scripture. Such an encouraging message!

  5. If you find that mute button, let me know, Lyli. I’ve been looking for one too. Granted, keeping my TV off has worked wonderfully well (or at least off of certain channels. May Jesus’s gracious voice drown everything else out, yes.

  6. Lyli, I love the image!!!!! Did you take the picture? It’s captivating! This post rings so true. The trying issues of this time in history are disappointing. Haven’t we evolved out of this childish way of thinking? It seems to be getting worse, as the contest of who can “yell the loudest,” as you brilliantly put, seems to outweigh the importance of content quality. I don’t completely stick my nose in the sand. It’s important to be aware of what’s going on around us. But, I certainly don’t linger there for long. I drift, instead, over to the Word that will be true forever. The Word of absolute truth, and authentic love.
Thanks for a truly though provoking post, today!! You go, girl!!
    Happy Thursday!

    1. Thanks, Meg. I love that you used the word “sand.” This world really is sinking sand — like the old hymn says.

I grab most of my pictures from a website called Pixabay. I’d love to take a photography class one day & use my own, but that is akin to the dream of having a dust free house at this point. πŸ™‚

  7. Lyli – I love your 3 points at the end – so good and so easy to implement. I can totally relate to discussing current events…. I hate watching the news and “talks” or should I say debates/arguments about what’s going on – it gets me all riled up and not in a good way…so I try to avoid it as much as possible. I so appreciate your hosting the link-up and the thoughts you share with us. Thanks so much.

  8. Amen, Lyli! So thankful to hear His voice above all others and to know His truth. I can’t imagine life without Him. Have a blessed week!

  9. Wonderful post. Right after 911, I heard a sermon by Chuck Swindoll I have never forgotten. He said he was being asked repeatedly where was God when 911 was occurring. His response – “Right where He always has been and always will be – on His throne.” Then he shared those same verse from Psalm 29. It has been a truth I have never forgotten as it became engraved within my heart. Blessings!
