Tell Shame You Have a Savior

Tell Shame You Have a Savior | lylidunbar.com

Shame paid us a visit on Tuesday.

He was not an invited guest. The sneaky stinker walked right through our front door like he owned the place.

As he mouthed off brazen accusations, my soul shattered into a million pieces of sorrow.

Ironically, just hours before Shame crashed my party, I’d authored an article titled “5 Decisive Moves to Defeat Discouragement.”

Writer Beware: Put your #ArmorOn before you pick up your pen.

To evict the vile villain, this Warrior Princess reached for her sword. I slashed away at shame with the sharp edge of Truth.

6 Sharp Truths to Shatter Shame

You have a Protector

God is a sheltering stronghold where you can stand safely.

“Be my protector and refuge, a stronghold where I can be safe! For you are my high ridge and my stronghold” (Psalm 71:3, NET).

You are already Rescued

God has unshackled you from sin and shame.

“Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man” (Psalm 71: 4, ESV).

Your God will never forsake You

God will honor His promises. He never abandons the helpless and hurting.

“All day long I’ll praise and honor You, O God, for all that you have done for me” (Psalm 71:8, TLB).

Your Salvation is Secure

God has covered you with grace and set you free from condemnation.

“I will tell about your justice, and all day long proclaim your salvation, though I cannot fathom its full extent” (Psalm 71:15, NET).

You are a Display Case for God’s Glory

Open your mouth and declare you are delivered. Watch shame disappear as you worship.

“O God, You have taught me from my youth, And I still declare Your wondrous works and miraculous deeds” (Psalm 71: 17, AMP).

You are Fully Restored

God has renewed your life and clothed you in His righteousness.

“You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth” (Psalm 71: 20, NLT).

Sister, tell Shame you have a Savior.

  1. I was stopped in my tracks by the fact that you addressed one of your statements directly to writers. So many obstacles to getting our words down . . . Shame is certainly one I had not considered.

  2. I love reading these affirmations, Lyli. I attended a Freedom conference last weekend and after each session, we repeated a beautiful affirmation of who we are in Christ. It was so liberating!

  3. Oh Lyli – this is so good! Such a reminder to #ArmorUP for sure… I had shame try to push through the door this week, but I was able to block his entry… when you write on tough stuff that will help set people free we become a target for the enemy… my pieces on rejection this week were tough emotionally to write, because the whispers and lies shame wanted to have me focus on instead. I always find such encouragement in your writing – keep on keeping on and giving us such good stuff!

  4. What a powerful story – and so well written! Your Scripture references are perfect! Sometimes, when shame attacks me or I’m feeling defeated, I listen and eventually start dancing to Hello My Name Is by Matthew West. Your title immediately reminded me of this song! Thank you, my dear warrior sister, for sharing!
