When You Need to Know It Is Still Well with Your Soul
I’m running ragged this week. My nose is stuffy, and my voice sounds like an 80 year old man from all the coughing. But more than that, I am just tired. My soul is weary. I mean, I know it is technically supposed to be well with my soul, but I am just not feeling it.
I’m worn out from fighting battles that never seem to end. I’ve over extended myself trying to lift up people who don’t even want to be helped. My knees ache from bending down in the same spot every day as I cry out to God for a breakthrough.
Some days I wonder if all of my loving and praying and believing is making any difference at all.
My soul is heavy.
But then I remember I was never meant to carry all this weight. My job is not to change people or do the impossible. Only God can make dead things come back to life.
I just need to stop thinking “how am I going to fix this?”
What I really need to do is fix my eyes on God. That’s all the fixing I need to do.
When I stop holding on to the heavy weight of brokenness and hand it all up to Jesus, then my soul is light and free.
Friend, what are you carrying that needs to be presented at the altar? Maybe it’s your marriage or a prodigal child. Perhaps it’s your failing health or the lack of money in your bank account. Whatever burden your soul is carrying right now belongs at the foot of the cross. Just lay it down.
Jesus doesn’t want you to live weighed down by worry. Come what may, it can still be well with your soul if you surrender all into His hands.
Ask God to remind you it is well with your soul no matter what.
4 Ways It Is Still Well with Your Soul
You have received total forgiveness.
Every debt you owe was nailed to the cross, and you are no longer captive to sin and shame. You can give yourself some grace because God has covered you with His compassion.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:1-5, ESV)
You are reinvigorated with God’s strength.
Your weakness doesn’t mean you can’t make it. You have God’s overcoming power in your corner, and He will equip you with whatever you need to keep moving forward. Ask God to fill up that space in your empty soul with His supernatural courage and wisdom.
“At the very moment I called out to You, You answered me! You strengthened me deep within my soul and breathed fresh courage into me.” (Psalm 138:3, TPT)
You are restored through life-giving friendship.
Look around and link arms with your sisters in Christ. Jesus modeled community for us, and we should not do life alone. It’s not weakness to let people know you need encouragement and support. We find joy in the journey when we invite others in and ask them to keep us accountable. Pick up the phone and ask a a friend to pray for you today.
“Nothing is more appealing than speaking beautiful, life-giving words. For they release sweetness to our souls and inner healing to our spirits.” (Proverbs 16:24, TPT)
You can rejoice about your secure future.
This broken world is not your permanent address. You are headed to your eternal home, and you can hold your head up high. Jesus always wins the day, and your victory dance is coming. His redemptive plan is in place, and your Defender will restore everything out of order in the end.
“I’m happy from the inside out, and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed. You canceled my ticket to hell—that’s not my destination! Now You’ve got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of Your face. Ever since You took my hand, I’m on the right way.” (Psalm 16:10-11, MSG)
This week, you can still sing it is well with my soul and trust you stand secure.

You are not fending for yourself in this world. You have a Heavenly Father who is fighting for you. Faith it until you feel it. Your soul knows right well that God is in control and will see you through this. Rest in His care and remember He will set everything right in the end.
Whatever you surrender to Jesus will create a space in your soul for others to see His glory spill out of your life. Your yielded life will show how saying yes to Jesus leads to true peace and lasting freedom.
Set your burden down at your Savior’s feet and believe it is still well with your soul.

Thanks, Jennifer. Having a cold definitely had not helped this week, but I am fighting through it.
I’m so grateful we can rest in God knowing it is well with our soul when circumstances don’t feel well. You’re modeling that in this season.
You are such a cheerleader friend! Thank you for always showing up with a word of encouragement on hard days. Love you
I’m so thankful He invites us to come and rest and cast our burdens on Him, large or small, as often as we have them. Sometimes I do that in one moment for forget to do it in another. Thank you for this encouragement, and I hope you feel better and the burdens lift soon.
I’m so sorry to know you’re feeling physically sick and soul-weary this week, my friend! You have been through so much. Thanks for sharing with us the encouragement the Lord is giving you! His overcoming power is, indeed, in our corner. And this world is not our permanent address. We have hope always!
Yes, I am thankful that we have a sure hope in Him. I just need to remind myself of it daily to combat all the negative noise. Love you, Betsy!
Thanks, Barbara. I am so thankful He is a burden carrying, compassionate Father. I think sometimes we get running so hard that he allows weeks like this to slow us down and remind us to let go of all that we are carrying.
Oh, this is exactly the reminder that my “mom fixes everything” weary soul needed!
I loved this: “I was never meant to carry all this weight. My job is not to change people or do the impossible. Only God can make dead things come back to life.”
Thank you for this tender reminder. Happily sharing
So glad this encouraged you, Rebecca! Praying for you, Mama. HUGS
Sorry you’re under the weather, Lyli, and trusting that you will soon be restored!
And thank you for this reminder that when I’m carrying the load designed for me, God is under it with me and he’s already borne the great weight of my sin.
Thanks, Michele. It’s so easy to forget His yoke is easy. We have so much to be thankful for!
I’ve been feeling so many of the same feelings this week. Heavy, sad, frustrated. Thank you for the encouragement. laurensparks.net
Hugs and prayers, Lauren. May God refresh your spirit and breathe encouragement into your soul.
These four things are all refreshing to hear because no matter what other circumstances come our way, some things are solid and constant. We can always depend on God’s faithfulness.
You have a lot of change in your life with being responsible for a little one and all the baggage that includes. It can be so overwhelming. I pray for God’s strength and peace and wisdom. One day at a time, friend. That’s the only way we make it through these tough times.
