Lessons Learned in 3-D: Put out the Welcome Mat
This week I learned that God wants me to put out the welcome mat. I must admit that this scares me a little because right now my house has been invaded by dust bunnies, and my fridge is bare. Nevertheless, I can no longer ignore that hospitality is a command, not a suggestion.
1. First, Angela at Good Morning Girls told a sweet story about a family who took her in. She said, “there is power in extending invitations.”
2. Then, I read this little gem of a Scripture passage in I Peter 4:
The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mindso that you may pray.Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides,so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever.Amen.
3. Midweek, Kristen at We are THAT Family reminded me that “if my To Do List isn’t governed by love, than I need to lay it down. If I’m too busy to love another person, then I’m too busy.”
4. This morning, God nudged me again through Dawn over at (in) courage that “sharing your home is an act of reckless optimism” —
Our lives are made to be shared regardless of the state of our houses. Sometimes the messes are the pieces of our testimony others most need to hear.
5. Finally, my ears perked up today as I listened to this Matt Redman song. He challenged me that I am to welcome God with praise.

Q4U: What lessons did you learn this week?
I am joining like-minded sisters this weekend at Saturday Linky Love, The Weekend Brew, Whatever is Lovely, and The Friday Five.
I have been learning that my God has already given me everything I need to be a successful overcomer in life and all that is required is my commitment to Him! I am learning to yield my heart surrendered to His love.
Yes, Jeannie! I pray that I will be obedience to His calling and directives — this week, the word was “put out the welcome mat.”
I love Matt Redman. What have I learned this week? Hmmmm I’ve learned I must be my children’s advocate in every situation and when I am overwhelmed or don’t know what to do. I must quiet myself and be still and know that He is God…. Not me not anyone around me on Him.
I have that verse from Psalms 46 on a plaque in my home and again at work. One of the newer translations says “Cease from striving.” Rest, not strive.
Love this – Lyli! Hospitality is a love of mine – I do so enjoy entertaining and making my home a haven for another soul. As an encourager of women, I often have ladies for tea – one at a time – and set out all the trimmings. My home is my sanctuary, and I want to share the joy of home sanctuary with others who may need an afternoon retreat before going back into the fray. Sometimes its simple – other times all the china is out for fun and frill. Always, sweet and seasoned conversation to lift up the Lord in our life is on the menu. Dust bunnies, notwithstanding. I am TERRIBLE at dusting!!!
Joy!
Kathy
Kathryn, I do love a good cup of tea! How fun that you have the girls over for tea time! 🙂
Lyli, I love the quote by Dawn. This week I have been just reminded of Jesus love for women as I read through different passages of scripture.
He loves us with such reckless abandon. What a great friend and Savior He is!
Great collection of links this week – thanks for sharing!
I started putting my list together, and realized a theme was developing for this one! 🙂
Thank you for the reminders. I had a dear neighbor drop in this week. I felt embarrassed because I was still in my pajamas and my house was in disarray, but she just wanted to talk and wasn’t paying any attention to those other things.
Thank you so much for linking up last Friday at Beauty Observed. I hope you’ll be back this week!
Fondly,
Elizabeth
