10 Power-Packed Promises to Plug You into God’s Peace
A couple of years ago, Bruce and I were getting ready for bed when I noticed a bright light flooding through our bedroom window. My internal radar sounded an alarm as the flash flowed toward our backyard.
βSomeone is out there!β I squealed. My sleepy-faced husband sat up in bed, parted the blinds, and scanned the terrain.
βItβs just the cops with a couple of dogs and flashlights,β he explained as he plopped back down under the covers.
βArenβt you going out there?β I cried.
βNah, Iβm sure they are just looking for a robbery suspect that may have jumped into the lake. Weβll probably hear about it on the news in the morning.β I wanted him to jump out of bed, find a big bat, and head outside to defend our territory. Instead, he just rolled over, slurred a sluggish, βGood Night,β and started snoring away.
I lay in bed shaking for an hour. I wondered if all the doors were actually locked. I prayed the blood of Christ over every window and doorway in my home. I looked out the window nervously at least a million times.
My husband slept peacefully on through it all. In the morning, the sun shone brightly, and our house still stood. No one came to huff and puff and blow it down. The only evidence of distress was the dark circles under my distraught eyes.
I canβt tell you how many nights Iβve laid in bed flooded with fear and worry. Iβve imagined thousands of catastrophes and mentally written my own obituary. Rather than praying through my fears and pressing into the presence of Christ, I allow my thoughts to escalate into terror and trembling.
In Matthew 8, Jesus leads His disciples on a boat trip that sails straight into a storm. As the wind and waves begin to bash against the bulwark, the seasoned sailors on board forget every past experience at sea and panic.
Jesus is sleeping soundly through the turmoil. When frenzy on board awakens him, His placid response speaks of a peace that rises above squall:
βWhy are you afraid, O you of little faith?β
Christ is calm because He knows who rules the whirlwind. And, I can rest because I know the Savior.
Jesus is our peace in the midst of the storm. Rather than living lives permeated with persistent fear, we can tack on to His strong arm and sail on with tranquility through the most brackish sea.
I want to invite you to spend time sitting at His feet this week remembering that He is Lord of the wind and waves. For the next 10 days, letβs spend a few minutes each morning meditating on a power-packed promise and plugging into Godβs peace.

Blessings!
I finally made it to your linkup party! That fear thing is a booger – glad you’re facing it head-on!
Wonderful promises and ones I will be making note of for my future pondering and studying. Thanks, Lyli. Your encouraging words and the direction of your heart always blesses me.
Great post. I just discovered that I have been doing my “Kingdom of Heaven” all wrong. I have been thinking that it will all be waiting for me when I get there and Jesus has been trying to make me see that I am already there. We are Children of God and we are Citizens Of Heaven now here on earth! Isn’t that cool! “My Kingdom is not of this world.” John 18:36 His wasn’t and as a reflection of Him here on earth our Kingdom is not of this world either! There is security in His Kingdom. Thanks for hosting!
I relate to you, Lyli. Iβve spent a few nights in worry myself. Thereβs something about the darkness of night. Sigh. So grateful for the Light that always shines on us in the morning!
Thank you for these reminders!
I never struggled with anxiety until my son was born. Now, it seems to come and go as it pleases.
It helps to take a deep breath, pray, and (TRY) to relax and let God handle my life.
Lyli, thanks for sharing those verses reminding us of where our peace is found. Psalm 4:8 is a favorite. Years ago we had an album by Steve Green called “Hide ‘Em In Your Heart” which was scriptures put to music. That verse was one of them and I had to sing it to my 4 yr. old son every night when he went to bed. π
Blessings to you!
Great mini-devotional, Lyli! I’ll enjoying adding these promises to my devotions this week. Thank you, friend!
I absolutely loved reading this Lyli and so glad I popped by. I really enjoyed the passion in this and I was so grabbed with your 10 daily readings. I especially like John 16:33. We definitely will have trials in our life, but as long as we run to Him He will give us the peace that we need to carry us through it. Thank you.
Lyli,
Thank you for these reminders. My granddaughter, Katie, who is almost 18 has been struggling with fear during this time of isolation. I am going to send this encouragement to her.
