A Piece of Cake

a piece of cake

The daylight called me out of slumber.  I crawled out of bed, wiped the sleep off my eyes, and squinted at the alarm clock.

I was running late.   Again.

The urgency crawled up into my stomach and lurched me into motion.  I spent the morning spinning — rushing to work on the turnpike, typing frantically on my computer, working magic with minimal resources to resolve major problems.

By 10 AM, I was already exhausted.

Lord, I could use a vacation, I thought.

Just then, a knock at the door interrupted my thoughts.  There in the doorway stood my angelic co-worker.  She fluttered with wings of encouragement over to my desk and placed a box between me and my demanding to-do list.

As I savored a spoonful of chocolate cheesecake, she offered me an adorable napkin that read

How did she know that “cake” was my love language?  Her sweet gesture helped lift my spirits.   I am so thankful for her thoughtfulness.

and to share what you have,

for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

  7. Oh, what an angel. It is so uplifting when someone notices you are struggling and offers a little pick-me-up. It’s the action and the thought behind it more than the cake. That’s why those of us with a love language of “gifts” feel truly blessed by those gestures.

  8. Lyli, it makes me smile to know that cake is your love language :). I’ve had a sweet tooth lately and this post piques my appetite. And what a blessing to have such a kind co-worker! A great many things CAN be resolved by kindness. For sure.
