A Piece of Cake
The daylight called me out of slumber. I crawled out of bed, wiped the sleep off my eyes, and squinted at the alarm clock.
I was running late. Again.
The urgency crawled up into my stomach and lurched me into motion. I spent the morning spinning — rushing to work on the turnpike, typing frantically on my computer, working magic with minimal resources to resolve major problems.
By 10 AM, I was already exhausted.
Lord, I could use a vacation, I thought.
Just then, a knock at the door interrupted my thoughts. There in the doorway stood my angelic co-worker. She fluttered with wings of encouragement over to my desk and placed a box between me and my demanding to-do list.
As I savored a spoonful of chocolate cheesecake, she offered me an adorable napkin that read
How did she know that “cake” was my love language? Her sweet gesture helped lift my spirits. I am so thankful for her thoughtfulness.
Do not neglect to do good
and to share what you have,
for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13:16, ESV

Your love language is cake. So cute! It’s wonderful to be surrounded by thoughtful people. You are a blessed woman!
Thanks for pointing that out, Michelle. I really do have amazingly supportive coworkers, and I should not take that for granted.
I love your love language – I think cake is mine, too – or maybe ice cream – or just both! Wishing you a day where yo don’t need cake – but have it just for fun!
thanks, Maryleigh! I wish you lived closer, and we could meet up to split a sundae. π
I love this, xx

We all need someone who ‘flutters with wings of encouragement.’
Wonderful.
if yo could only see the smile on my face now…
Who says, “no” to cake??!! Awesome, Lyli. It’s the little things. β₯
So true! Some things just require cake! Thanks for linking up to Testimony Tuesday, friend!
I’m here from Testimony Tuesday. Cake! What a wonderful blessing of encouragement! Makes me want to have a piece now. Thank you for sharing your heartwarming story. God gives us just what we need when we need it. Blessings!
How lovely! Cake sure can make a difference-turn the day around. Such a nice random act of kindness π
Oh, what an angel. It is so uplifting when someone notices you are struggling and offers a little pick-me-up. It’s the action and the thought behind it more than the cake. That’s why those of us with a love language of “gifts” feel truly blessed by those gestures.
Oh, Lyli,
I love how your friend spoke your love language and encouraged you…so happy for you π
Lyli, it makes me smile to know that cake is your love language :). I’ve had a sweet tooth lately and this post piques my appetite. And what a blessing to have such a kind co-worker! A great many things CAN be resolved by kindness. For sure.
