On My Heart

I thought from time to time it might be nice to give you a peek at what’s tugging at my heart strings.

Right now I am…

Watching: I am a bit obsessed with the show Fixer Upper.  My husband keeps getting Joanna Gaines and her goofy hubby, Chip confused with the Hatmakers (who are on my second favorite HGTV show).

Reading: I am plowing through The Fringe Hours by Jessica Turner with the girls over at (in)courage’s Bloom Book Club.    This book has made me feel less guilty about my dirty dishes and my laundry pile by affirming that taking time out for “Me” is not selfish, but smart.

Listening:  My new morning routine is to start the day with this song by Jen Stanbro.  It’s a prayer that rises up in my soul.

Making: This recipe for Enchiladas is easy peasy and is always a hit at my house.

Feeling:  Tired. Grieving is incredibly exhausting.  This week, we laid to rest my beloved Madrina.  Here is a picture of us (circa 1970).

Madrina

Planning:  I am going to leading an 8-week Love God Greatly study for women starting March 23rd.  Members must be subscribed to the LGG blog, and we will be meeting in a private Facebook group to share our insights on a few verses each week day.  I have room for 7 more in my group.  If you are interested in joining, let me know in the comments.

Love God Greatly I and II Peter

Loving:  I am in mad love with Panera’s hot chocolate (Don’t tell Bruce…)

  1. I read the Fringe Hours and am re-reading for the Bloom bookclub. I can’t find many fringe hours to keep up though. Busy with blogging, family, and housework. Plus, I am exercising trying to lose weght. I thought disabled life would be boring, Ha. 😉 Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ponderings. Sorry for your loss. I will pray a special blessing on your leadership of the study. I would love to join. Thanks.

  2. I’m so sorry for your loss.

On my heart…the song “Remember Me” by the band with the weirdest name I’ve ever heard…The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Good beat, thought-provoking lyrics, touching video.

Book…John Dramesi’s “Code Of Honor”, about his captivity by the North Vietnamese, and his repeated efforts to escape.

    Television…don’t watch much.

  3. At first I thought Gaines were the Hatmakers-her manner of talking and the locale are similar. Fixer Upper is terrific -genuine love and no faux repair problems drama. I don’t like some of the house repair shows bc the faux drama. Yes, problems happen, but not as disasterous as TV makes it.

  4. Hug to you as you grieve the passing of your godmother. She “done good” raising you. I look forward to meeting this dear woman on the other side.

  5. I love Fixer-Upper as well! Such a fun show.
It is amazing how much freedom the words of Fringe Hours can bring to our souls!
Definitely am going to try the Enchilada recipe. Thank you!!!!
If I were not leading a group in Hello Mornings, I would join yours! I so would. Friend, you bless my life in so many ways that to be in your group….well would just be such a treat. Just saying. Praying for you & your family during this time of loss. May God bring His comfort in a special way.

On my heart? Just finished reading, “Undone” by Michele Cushatt for the 3rd time. So love this book.

  6. That’s hot chocolate??? I need to try that.

On my heart right now are a couple of things I’ve been sworn to not tell yet. Both connected. Both happy and hard. I’m about to pop. 🙂

  7. I love your blog Lyli! I found you on Sharing His Beauty Blog Link Up. I adore Fixer Upper! Chip & Joanna encourage me and make me laugh! What a precious family they are! I love it when Christians are highlighted in a show on TV! If I wasn’t gluten free I would be heading to Panera for that decadent hot chocolate! Wow! Good dark chocolate does perk up my day! May God comfort you in your grieving, and remember to be gentle with yourself! I will be following you.

  8. I’m so sorry for your loss Lyli!

Right now I’m finishing reading Hope for the Weary Mom, and I just signed up for Tracie Miles’ online study of her new book, Your Life Still Counts. Otherwise, I’d be signing up for your study!

  9. Keeping you in my prayers, sweet friend. And that hot chocolate looks mighty tasty. I’m just about done with Emotionally Healthy Spirituality but I may need to start from the beginning again. It’s so good! Much love. xoxo

  10. I’m sitting next to you (so to speak) over at Holley’s blog today. Loved getting to know you through this post – creative way of sharing. That hot-chocolate looks yum – what is it topped with other than the whipped cream? Looks like croutons. Ha! I’m sure it’s not but I keep looking at the picture trying to figure it out. Now I’m drooling all over my keyboard and craving hot chocolate. Ha!

  11. I love these glimpse of your life. Thanks for inviting us in. And, hey, my small town is getting a Panera soon. I’m so very excited about that. Cinnamon Crunch Bagels, here I come … 🙂

    1. I’ve actually only been to Panera’s for breakfast twice, and I did a bagel both times — but not Cinamon Crunch (I am making a mental note about that for next time.)

We normally go to the Saturday night service at church, and then we got to Panera’s after for soup and salad/sandwich. They also have a great sweet green tea drink that is super yummy (I am normally not a green tea person, but this one is fantastic.)

My sister in law lives a couple of hours west of us, and she has a drive thru Paneras in her town — it’s the only one I’ve ever seen.

Can you tell I love Paneras?

  12. Panera makes hot chocolate that looks like that – how did I not know this?! And, Fixer Upper – oh yes, don’t you just want to be best friends with Chip and Joanna? We live in California and every time we watch I try to convince my husband to move to Waco. Y our life sounds busy with kingdom work and you are doing much for His glory – way to go!!

    1. You are so sweet, Tiffany.

I am not a coffee drinker, but it was COLD on this morning, so I was looking for something hot. I was delighted to find hot chocolate on the menu. I don’t normally drink it — because I always seem to get a pimple after I have hot chocolate… but the hot tea flavors didn’t tickle my fancy, so this day I decided to “go for it,” and I am so glad that I did. Just looking at the cup made my heart happy.

  13. I can relate to feeling tired, I recently lost my dad. I’m so sorry for your loss. Praying for comfort through the grief. I recently posted this quote on my blog, author unknown:

    Grief never ends . . .

but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay.

Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith . . .

it is the price of LOVE.

The LGG studies are wonderful! Wish I could join you, but not committing to anything additional right now. Enjoy – and be blessed!

  14. I have the Fringe Hours, but haven’t yet started it (ironic, huh?) and I have 3 episodes of Fixer Upper on my DVR, which I haven’t gotten to yet, either. But, I am excited about getting them after this weekend.

Lyli, I am praying for you as you grieve. You are right – it is exhausting, but I think it’s more exhausting to stuff it all in your heart for years to come. Grieving in the present is a gift, even though it hurts. Praying covering and an abundance of love over you.

  15. That Panera hot chocolate looks to die for. So happy about that. Just seeing it made me happy – ha! Fun post. Cheering you on from the #RaRalinkup on Purposeful Faith.

  16. Following you at The Weekend Brew. I’m sorry for your loss. Praying God comforts you as you grieve. It’s a blessing to meet new friends through the blog world. God bless you as you continue to share.

  17. I too adore the show, Fixer Upper! I love Joanna’s style and wish she could hop over to my state and give me some design advice! I’m sorry to hear you’re grieving and pray The Lord provides you much comfort.
