Mountaineering (Thought-Provoking Thursday)
“A voice said, “Climb.” And he said, “How shall I climb? the mountains are so steep that I cannot climb.”
The voice said, “Climb or die.”
He said, “But how? I see no way up those steep ascents. This that is asked is too hard for me.”
The voice said, “Climb, or perish, soul and body of thee mind and spirit of thee. There is no second chance for any son of man. Climb or die.”–Then he remembered that he had read in the books of the bravest climbers on the hills of the earth that sometimes they were aware of the presence of a Companion on the mountains who was not one of the earthly party of climbers. And he remembered a word in the Book of Mountaineers…it heartened him, for it told him that he was created to walk in precarious places, not on the easy levels of life.”~Amy Carmichael, A Very Present Help: Lives of Great Christians
Keep looking up and remember you were made for the heights.
The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights.
Habakkuk 3:19, NLT
Such a comforting and inspiring thought, that we were created to walk in precarious places, not on the easy levels of life. Thanks for sharing.
Keep climbing, sister! 🙂
Such a great quote, Lyli. We were created to walk in precarious places, yet in our humanness, we so desire to be in that safe place. May I remember what I was created for today for perhaps it is in that precarious place that I am safest. Thank you for this nugget of a quote! Blessings today!
It gives me hope that I am not alone in the climb. 🙂
‘he was created to walk in precarious places, not on the easy levels of life.’
These are hard words, aren’t they, Lyli. Ones we do not seek, but in them are an invitation worth considering …
Thank you, my friend, for this challenge so early this morning!
The terrain is rugged, but the view at the top is going to be spectacular. 🙂
A lovely reflection Lyli. I think about how often I look ahead and think I can’t and he says, “You can with me, all things are possible.” Thanks for the reminder. Happy Thursday to you friend.
Life can be tough, right?
I’m trying to keep my eye on the prize, and not on the potholes.
Thanks, Lyli, for the inspiriting words !
{ and great photo expression } =)
blessings on your day…
Sharon, it’s so lovely to see you here today! Thanks for stopping by and leaving some comment love. 🙂
“Made for heights”… this speaks to me this morning, Lyli. How often I would rather not attempt out of fear or failure. Thank you for this encouragement and Amy Carmichael’s encouragement.
Caring through Christ, ~ linda
I struggle the same way, Linda. I keep reminding myself that God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind. I say that verse from II Timothy often to help me plow on.
You can imagine that I related to this post, as I live in the mountains. Yet, sometimes a very deep valley can be experienced in the soul, even if we’re living in the treetops. Your post reminded me of the ever-present Companion, and the truth that I am never alone – even if it feels that way sometimes.
The enemy wants me to fall down and never get up. The Lord wants me to soar. You know what, I’m getting up and I’m going to CLIMB…!
GOD BLESS!
Sharon, I live in flat Florida, so I love getting up to the mountains when we visit family in NC. I am thankful that He is in the valley, and He is on the mountaintop. I’d be lost without Him for sure! 🙂
Lyli – Can’t tell you how my heart beats, my understanding stretches, and life aligns when I remember that we all were made for the heights. Thanks for the reminder that we were not made to exist in the shallow plains of our souls…but were created solely, completely…IN HIM…for more!
Greater things are yet to come, my sister. 🙂
Such an awesome quote from one of my favorites! That verse in Habbakkuk is also a favorite.
I am a big Amy Carmichael fan — ever since someone gave me a copy of “If” in college.
Thank you for the link up! It’s my first time joining in 😉
So glad you are here, Debbie! 🙂
Yes indeed Lyli!!! I am made for the heights! Thanks for the inspiration and hosting us again too! Have a super blessed weekend!
Love
Thanks for linking up, Ugochi. So glad you are here! 🙂
Love that verse in Habakkuk! Very encouraging post here, Lyli! Heart Hugs, Shelly <3
It is a sweet promise, right?
Don’t you love Amy Carmicheal’s writings. This one really spoke to me this Sabbath. So thankful for the Companion who climbs with me.
Me, too! Let’s keep putting one foot in front of the other… 🙂
