Monitor Your Heart

What do all the numbers on the monitor mean? Β I anxiously asked the nurse.

My husband went into respiratory distress. Β Twenty nurses entered the room and pushed me out into the hallway. Β In less than 10 minutes, the angels in scrubs moved my man to the Critical Care Unit for his protection.

I learned to watch the numbers. Β They told a story. Β If the levels started to drop, immediate intervention was required.

My hubby is happy to be home now and unstrapped from all the wires, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t keeping a watchful eye on his health.

We are keenly alert to the signs of distress now and are determined to make wise choices that will breathe life and strength into his body, mind, and spirit.

Lately, I’ve wondered what my numbers would be if The Master Physician hooked me up to a screen that monitored my spiritual pulse.

I desperately want my heart to beat wildly for my Jesus.

I want to learn how to make healthy choices that will help me pass the stress test of life before emergency intervention is required.

How to Monitor Your Heart: Β

  • Stay Active: Β  I need to exercise my faith even when it’s uncomfortable and I’d rather stand on the sidelines.
  • Digest Healthy Fare: Β  I must say no to junky appetites that clog up my spiritual arteries and slow down my pace. Β  Say yes to the Bread of Life.
  • Shed the Excess Weight: Β God has set me free from sin and condemnation. Β Let go of the guilt and regret. Β Hold on to His unending grace that lightens my step.

How’s your heart? Β  Maybe it’s time to get a spiritual check up before it’s too late.

  1. Lyli, this is very true. I have also written a post about our spiritual temp, God had first convicted me of it. Thank you for the reminder, I love your post.

  2. Practical and encouraging words here, Lyli. Thanks for that. Thanks for sharing lessons from this hard experience. God doesn’t waste these things, does he?

  3. What a scary time…I pray he continues to get stronger. What a great illustration the Lord has put on your heart to share with us though. We should all be regularly asking ourselves and each other these questions! Thank you!!!

  4. What great advice, Lyli! We all need a spiritual checkup every now and then! Digesting Healthy Fare is probably the one I need to concentrate on. I can tend to get distracted with things that really are a waste of time and not feeding my soul. So grateful for these tips today!

  5. Oh Lyli, your post’s opening sentences took me back to that moment when your “Pray now please” request flashed onto my fb screen. Those words ~ they shouted all wasn’t well. Girl, we dropped everything and lifted your hubby’s name to the Almighty. Praise God for His healing work. And how you’ve taken that moment and thread it into this post – well, it’s simply beautiful. Simple, sweet, but oh-so impactful. I’ve never thought of it in these terms, correlating our spiritual walk with these simple “healthy” decisions. Love it.

  6. I deperately want my heart to beat wildly for Jesus – me, too, lyli – thanks for this great post of encouragement. i’ll make that my prayer today (every day?) – the prayer God delights to answer. thanks!

  7. Great correlation, Lyli, between our physical hearts and our spiritual hearts. Yes, spiritual health is so important. And it takes us keeping track of our *pulse* at all times!

I want my heart to beat wildly for Jesus, too!!

    GOD BLESS!

(Glad hubby is on the mend!)

  8. Lyle,
I love this post as well as the graphic with it that illustrates this so well! Great stuff to be reminded of and remember! Blessings on you, my friend!

  9. Lyli, I am so grateful that Bruce continues to improve. I loved this post. As I read, I thought … wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had a spiritual alarm for our hearts much the way our physical hearts do when we are hospitalized. But then … we do – the Holy Spirit. He truly does sound an alarm to pull us back to safety when we start to err. Such a wonderful analogy to remember! May Bruce continue to get stronger!

  10. Lyli,
Praise God your husband is home and doing better. It must have been a very scary time for you. Hang in there! Also a great reminder to keep checking in on our spiritual health!

    Blessings and smiles,
    Lori

  11. For by the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks. We should take care of it. It reflects who we really are. πŸ™‚

    Have a wonderful week ahead.

  12. Now wouldn’t that be interesting to have a spiritual heart monitor! I love the idea, but I guess God knows it is not really best for us after all—it would be too discouraging. ha. So glad your hubby is more aware now and is off of the monitors.
