The Letter (Tuesdays Unwrapped)

letter on gate

We had just finished eating dinner when my husband produced the letter.  He had picked it up at the post office at 1:30 that day, but he had waited to tell me.

He slid the open envelope across the kitchen counter that stood between us.

I started at it, but did not open it because my man’s face said all I needed to know.

Rejected.

I measured my response — I could unravel and wallow in the dark, scornful sea of despair, or I could lift up this letter and offer it to God.

Lord, here is the letter.  We lay it at your feet along with our hearts and ask you to do as You please.  We are yours.  We receive what You have for us with thankfulness.  We choose to hope where there is no hope because You are hope.

The next morning, as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, I opened up my Daily Light Devotional app on my iPhone to sit with my Savior for a spell.  The reading for the day offered hope.

I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause. – Job 5:8

Is anything too hard for the Lord?―Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.―Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.―Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.

And then came the verse that God wanted to write on my heart….

Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed unto the Lord.

How cool is that?  May I never forget that God is the Postmaster of all my correspondence.

His stamps all with the seal

Accepted.  Redeemed.  Restored.

  1. Dear Lyli
This brings tears to my eyes!! Our Pappa is truly faithful and we really have nothing to be concerned about. I often wondered why Paul tells us to always lay our worries and requests before Jesus with thanksgiving until I realized it is because of our certainty and trust that God always hears and listen to us.

  2. Wow! I love how God directs us directly to his word (the greatest love letter ever written to us)! Thank you for sharing an encouraging story. Praying for wisdom and continued direction as well as peace in your situation.

  3. As I read this, I could not help but think that a rejection might actually make room for the acceptance into the place God has purposed. May we always remember that He knows the beginning from the end & all that is also in the middle. I love how He speaks to us exactly what we need at the moment. Keep holding onto Him as He holds onto you both! Blessings, Lyli!

  4. Lyli, I am thankful for your courage in sharing what sounds like a beginning to a journey. thank you. Beautiful analogy. It works on so many levels for me as I am a believer who is crazy about letter writing and all things paper (you may enjoy my hang out over at http://www.ritewhileucan.com). May you feel His real peace this Christmas.
