In Everything

To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us – and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.

Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.

  1. Lyli, such a powerful quote. If we but pause to consider all we have been given, and He has given us everything, our response would be hearts filled with gratitude. Thank you for sharing this quote. Another one to keep 🙂

  2. Recognizing the love of God in EVERYTHING . . .
This is truly a work of the spirit, and this thanksgiving season, I’m asking the Lord to turn my heart in this direction — it is certainly not my default!
Thanks for the lovely quote from Merton, and also thankful for your ministry at the Consilium.

  3. That is what makes all the difference, isn’t it? I like that. I’ve been reading Ann Voskamp’s _One Thousand Gifts_ devotional book, and I’ve been loving her thoughts on gratitude as well. Thanks for sharing, Lyli. <3

  4. Love the quote and it was such a gift of blessing to ponder today. It is going right into my quote book. Thanks for the timely truth, Lyli!
    Blessings,

  5. In everything. Makes all the difference when you put that first. It frames our mind for the second part, give thanks. Have a blessed day, Lyli, thanks for hosting!

  6. Lyli, this quote is so beautiful and powerful, all wrapped into a few words. The God we serve wants our gratitude and our lives for He did, truly, give us everything.
