Hit the Reset

I was sitting on my friend’s couch when the horror happened. My fancy dancy phone that goes with me everywhere just died. The battery still had juice in it, so its demise truly perplexed me. I plugged it in to an outlet, but it remained dark and lifeless.
In a panic, I called Mr. Fix It. He assured me that he would come to the rescue. I jumped in my car and raced home where I handed my man the defunct mobile device.
Two hours later, we took two Advil and headed to the closest Provider Store for support from the experts.
In a shrill voice, I explained every single tragic step that had transpired that day. I was quite sure that I would be leaving the store with a new phone since mine was obviously defective.
The nice man with the badge on took my phone and fixed it in about 5 seconds. I am quite sure that my mouth fell open in complete disbelief when he handed me back my fully functioning smart phone.
“Do you know about the reset button?” he asked.
No, I did not. Apparently, if you keep your phone running all the time, it gets “buggy.” To fix the anomalies, you simply need to give your phone a fresh start.
How was I supposed to know?
One thing I do know is that God has provided a perfect “reset function” for my soul. Have you been mis-functioning lately? Confession will clear that right up and put a new zip in your spirit.
When I refused to confess my sin,
my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.Psalms 32:3-5, NLT
Thanks so much for sharing that great analogy and the link-up, Lyli!
Heather, thanks for linking up so faithfully each week. 🙂
Great reflection and I learned something about my phone…win–win! Thanks for hosting.
Ha! So glad to be of service! 🙂
Lyli, it is always a blessing to read your posts. I so grateful for the spiritual reset button which has been provided for me. And trust me, it has gotten much use in my life. I also learned something I had never known before about my phone as I leave mine running all the time as well. Time to “reset” that as well. Great analogy this morning!
Yes, I’ve passed on this “cell phone wisdom” to quite a few friends. You basically have to hold down your on/off button and your home button at the same time on your iPhone until the phone re-starts. Works like a charm if your phone is acting wacky!
Lyli, this had me laughing out loud girlfriend. I can feel your pain. Just had the same thing happen with our phones too. It is crazy how much we rely upon technology, isn’t it? But then again, technology allows us to write and encourage one another. So praise the Lord for the blessing. Great reminder today to not only take the five minutes to reset our phones, but to do a nice reset spiritually as well. Love it!
Aw, thanks, Nicki! This actually happened about 2 years ago. I was having a TERRIBLE week, and that cell phone incident almost sent me over the edge. The Lord brought it to mind last week during the mid-week sermon when my pastor actually used a similar analogy. I was going to write about it when I got home for last week’s Thought-Provoking Thursday, but my computer started acting crazy, and we had to reset it. (I am not making this up!). By the time I got my laptop back up and running, I was too tired to think through the wording, so I just used a Nouwen quote last week and saved the idea for this week.
Bahahaha! Lyli – you just described ME whenever ANYTHING of a digital/electronic nature does not work when I click on it. I morph into such a crybaby. Panic sets in and that “shrill voice” of meltdown. I have embarrassed myself more times than I want to think through the years when it comes to computer/phone/DVD player issues. Smart phones notwithstanding – I need a few “smarts” to use it intelligently. NOW – RESET reminder today is truly thought provoking – I shall need to do so with my own phone . . . and be more diligent to “reset” my easily panicked button to the PEACE of CHRIST the next time buggaboos arise.
Joy!
Kathy
I’ve heard we need to turn our phones off now and again to reset. Good to hear this advice again. Every night when we shut ourselves down, it seems like a reset to me, time to let God be totally in control because we’re relinquishing everything to his care while we sleep. I wish I could maintain that attitude throughout the day too.
Great analogy, Lyli! I took care of my phone, and the, um, other matter right away! Have a blessed week!
I love those words from David. Yes, being completely open and transparent before the Lord is totally renewing! It’s our reset button for sure! Thanks for sharing this today…and I’m so glad that your phone was fixed!
Blessings, Joan
Really great analogy, Lyli!
Great analogy, Lyli. I love how your Thursday posts are truly always thought-provoking! Much love. xoxo
Loved you post! First I could feel your freak out moment when your phone wasn’t working-been there done that! Second, how refreshing to learn that we can function again or in this case our phones by a simple reset button. I call it a mind shift when life becomes too overwhelming and we need to look elsewhere in order to move forward. Great reminder today! Blessed you linked with The Weekend Brew.
LOVED this! I am sure I hit the reset button every day, sometimes multiple times a day! Thanks for sharing at The Weekend Brew!
