Gratitude as a Discipline
Photo Credit / Quote by G.K. Chesterton
Gratitude goes beyond the ‘mine’ and ‘thine’ and claims the truth that all of life is a pure gift. In the past I always thought of gratitude as a spontaneous response to the awareness of gifts received, but now I realize that gratitude can also be lived as a discipline. The discipline of gratitude is the explicit effort to acknowledge that all I am and have is given to me as a gift of love, a gift to be celebrated with joy.
~Henri Nouwen
Something to think about…
happiness doubled by wonder = gratitude. yeah, I can embrace that truth!
thanks, friend!

Yes, YES! Remembering that God has given us everything, including life itself, is that from which gratitude springs. Thanks, Lyli, for the reminder, especially as we head into Thanksgiving.
Caring through Christ, ~ linda
Lyli, Yes 🙂 All is gift…all is grace 🙂
I have loved that quote for years! That’s where I got the inspiration for my blog name. 🙂 Thanks for hosting this linkup.
Oh, this quote resonates for me. Yes, part of our everyday disciplines — and it frees us to see the good all around us!
I love the quote! I want to be filled with gratitude & see the wonder of Him in the midst of today! XO
Discipline as gratitude. Yes. I’ve been recounting graces again this season, and eucharisteo blesses. Thanks, Lyli.
Great perspective. It would be nice if right heart attitudes just arose spontaneously, but most of them do take discipline.
I agree that gratitude needs to be intentional, especially in those times when our human nature wants to take over and blinds us from the pure gift of God’s grace.
Lyli, I love both the quotes you used! Happiness doubled by wonder. So simple and yet so profound! Thank you!
Gratitude as a discipline… yes! I love that. This quote is going straight into my quote book.
Thank you for always leading us to think and reason, Lyli. Is 1:18.
Love,
Dawn
