Finding My Mojo

What makes your heart come alive?

It’s important to invest time in things that refresh your soul.   This broken world will wear you out in a hurry if you don’t set aside time to recharge.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been searching for pockets of time in my week  to find rest and renewal, and I have re-connected with 5 things that make my heart come alive.

Reading

Read to Lead

Other women collect shoes… I collect books.   This book nerd has started heading to bed a little earlier, and I pick up the book on my nightstand and read a few pages.  I’ve also put a book in my purse in case free time pops up during my day.   A few minutes set aside each day are making a difference.

Journaling

Journal

Journaling helps me to remember God’s goodness and grace.   I am taking my journal to work and trying to spend a few minutes of uninterrupted time writing during my lunch hour.

Sleeping

Dad and Me

Inside my middle aged body, lurks the spirit of a 5- year old girl who hates bed time.  Because I am a night owl, it’s important for me to have a “shut down” time for the evening.  I am learning that some things will just have to wait until the morning.  Cutting down on screen time and phone usage at the end of the day have really helped me get more sleep.

Blogging

Tell Your Story

There is a healing power in sharing our stories.   I want my blog to be a safe place for women to come find encouragement each week.  My hubby and I usually spend at least an hour a night watching television.  I’ve started using that time to read and respond to people who visit this blog.

Chatting

Friends

I need my friends.   This week, I decided to e-mail a nice long chatty note to a friend who I love dearly but don’t get to spend time with now that she has moved away.  It took me just a few minutes to write

Q4U:  What makes you come alive?

I’m sharing “Finding My Mojo” with like-minded friends at (in)courage’s Bloom Book Club and Fringe Friday.

  1. For me, in no particular order (and it varies according to how I feel)…

    * Spending time with the dogs
    * Reading
    * Working on aeroplanes (when i was well enough)
    * A freshly opened can of Lo-Carb Monster Energy Drink

  2. Lyli!!

This is perfect for our link-up :). You make it sound easy, taking advantage of all the minutes in our day. The bigger deal, though, is you’ve made it sound realistic, small habits that not only fill your tank but bless others.

I’m so thankful for your voice in our Bloom community. It’s wise, encouraging and adds SO much to the conversation there. xo

    1. Robin, thanks for stopping by today and leaving some comment love. I am so thankful for your leadership through the last few weeks of reading Jessica’s book. I am a bit sad to be saying goodbye to our sisters on the couch, but am hoping that you will be sticking around for Bloom version #2.

Jessica’s book is helpful because it gives us permission to lay down guilt and take up rest and fun. I am so glad that I read this book. It came right on time for me.

  3. I find my mojo in much of the same ways that you do. Reading, Journaling, Chatting, Blogging. Those are all very therapeutic for me! Enjoyed reading this today.

  4. Beautiful post, Lyli! 🙂 What makes me come alive: Worship, crying out to God with all my heart, sharing my story of His grace and transformation in my life, loving the least of these, and giving freely. Thanks for sharing your heart. I found your blog through (in)courage website.

  5. What makes my heart come alive: reading (yes, me too!), making art and looking at art, nature walks, seeing beautiful flowers in a vase or outside, road trips. Hope your day is beautiful.

    1. thanks, Brenda. Love your short list. I would love to learn more about photography some day. Right now, I am just a fan of instagram and my iPhone camera. Most of the pictures in the post are free public domain photos from pixabay.com.

  6. These are all great ideas, Lyli! I’ve been going outside on the patio for the past several days to do my Bible study. As I’ve been hearing the birds and feeling the breeze it has been so calming! (Our weather has been good.) If I get a chance to do that every day…spend some time outside…I am energized. It boosts my mood, too!

    Blessings, Joan

  7. Like you, I love reading. I’m not a TV watcher in the late evenings, and I have to make myself turn off the laptop and go READ. Also, I think reconnecting with old friends sounds like a fab idea.

  8. I think I could have written your exact list! I love reading and writing, my two biggest passions. I also love knitting and all things paper related – well pretty paper, bills and filing I could do without 🙂
