Carry My Load

I have a huge packing list.
Whenever my man and I decide to get away for a few days, I will ask him to pull down my suitcase.Β Before I put my toothbrush and underwear or anything vital in, I take the big stack of books on my nightstand and pile them up in a corner. Β Then, I will toss in the essentials on my list. Β Before I zip up the bag, if there is any space left, I will grab a few more potential good reads off the shelf and Β shove them in.
Basically, my suitcase ends up being two pairs of socks, my floss, and a sizeable portable library.Β My sophisticated friends tell me to pack a KindleΒ insteadΒ — it’s light and packs easy. Β But, I am old-fashioned. Β I love the feel of a pen in my hand as I scour the page. Β I am an excessive highlighter. Β Underlining is my love language.
You may be thinking: Β That is one heavy suitcase, crazy girl. Β You are going to get quite a workout.
But that is where you would be wrong. Β You see, I have a personal valet. Β (He is really good-looking, and I may have a thing for him. Β Yes, you guessed correctly. Β It’s my husband.)
When it’s time to embark for the journey, I just put on a pair of sunglasses and grab a tall glass of iced tea.
Bruce does all the heavy lifting.Β I am completely foot loose and fancy free.
The problem is that I somehow can’t seem to transfer this protocol to my spiritual walk on a consistent basis.
On the journey of life, my luggage is overloaded. Β I didn’t exactly place all those things in my bag voluntarily, but they are encased firmly into the suitcase with my name on it.
If I pick up the weight of it, I will be crushed.
I need to remember to leave that burden at the foot of the cross.
God is a power lifter.
Friend, let’s place our baggage at His feet and make a humble request:
Lord, please carry my load.
~
Let’s Talk: Β How has God sustained you under the weight of difficult circumstances? Β I’d love to hear your story.
~
This year, my desire is to lift up holy hands and “Pray Big.” Β Want to join me?Β I’ve created a private “Pray Big” Facebook group for like-minded sisters to share their stories and surrender each one to our mountain-moving God in prayer.Β Let’s cry out to God together.

Lyli,
I love your analogy…and this past Sat- Tuesday, I was asking God multiple times a day to help me because I didn’t have what I needed physically and emotionally…He came through and now I’m trying to recover…if you read my post it will make more sense…and we’re kindred because I love to highlight my books, too π
I pack just like you! My iPad is rarely used for reading. I love the spiritual lesson you made out of something I can definitely relate too!
Lyli, you pack much the way I do π And here is the thing … no one, no one, no one ever wants to carry my suitcase because it is surely the heaviest one in the family. Thankfully, my husband always volunteers as well! And that is what hit me as I read your post, only God is willing and able to carry our loads as we journey through life.
PS- Instead of highlighters, I love pencils! Nothing like a good #2 pencil to underline & write in the margins of my books.
Great analogy!
How fun an analogy and wise words.
Still smiling over this: Underlining is my love language.
What a blessing to read your words this morning and get a spiritual lesson as well as a feeling of camaraderie over the “book thing”!
He just can’t wait to carry that load, can He … ‘come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden.’
What a relief, what a joy is ours!
“God is a power lifter.” Oh how I love your analogy and this truth. My husband does the exact same thing for me; he even lets me pack a few extra books in his own suitcase. It’s all about the books on a trip, yes? Ha. I need to apply this more to God, too. He wants to and is capable of carrying it all. I just need to remember to allow him to. Thanks, Lyli!
I love how you make these lessons so easy to relate in our everyday living, especially, how willing you are to be transparent. I can see your beautiful smile shine as you follow your hubby around. And I can see how you are allowing God to purge the places that you leave firmly in His hands. Because He is gentle and full of grace we get to vacation at that sacred spot often, don’t we.
Bless you, Lyli!

I have one of those guys too! I hardly ever lift a suitcase and couldn’t lift mine if I wanted to. π You are blessed! I am praying I don’t hoard my stuff today and let God take control. P.S. Enjoyed your scope on Praying Big!! You did great! β₯
“Underlining is my love language” Love it! ha!
He is always so good to bring me a word I need to confirm He is with me. It truly helps lift the burden of whatever I am carrying.
What a fantastic picture, thanks for sharing your heart here, a joy to mine to read!
I love your analogy! I am so thankful that God is a power lifter! I so often forget to give God my bags. Sometimes I cling to them… much like I cling on to my carry on bag at the airport. π Thank you for your wise words. (visiting from #livefreeThursday)

Thanks for sharing your story Lyli! Such a wonderful analogy and beautiful story. I love how God reveals Himself to us in our everyday and then enables us to share with others! Throughout my recovery, God has allowed me to see that He is willing and more than capable to do the heavy listing. I just need to ask. Thanks for sharing this lovely post/reminder and allowing me to share here on your site. I am so thankful for the opportunity to read what God puts on your heart
I do love my Kindle, but also love to underline, highlight and make notes in the margin of books I read. Love the analogy of allowing God to carry our load.
