Be a Blessing Today

I am called to love others with reckless abandon in Jesus’ name. Years ago, I read a very insightful book by Gary Smalley and John Trent that helped me learn the importance of imparting a Biblical blessing.

This week, I pray that the Lord would bless you and protect you.
May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.
May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace.

Something to think about…
Good summary, but one suggestion – ask before the laying on of hands thing.
Not what you might think. I’m very ill, dying, so they say, and my skin hurts like you wouldn’t believe. Touch can be very painful, and a friendly slap on the back, landed in the wrong spot (behind the pancreas, if you’re interested) can kill me from shock.
I love that book you mentioned. I so believe in Biblical spoken blessing.
Yes, I remember this book, and what a challenge It was. Most of all, I was impressed that we are lived and receive that kind of blessing from our Heavenly Father who speaks acceptance and hope over us, His children. Blessings on your week!
Spoken words of affirmation and grace? We’re all yearning for them, craving to hear some kind of ‘atta girl’ … and even more so if they were slow in coming when we were little ones.
No wonder us bloggers love the comments left behind by kind readers …
Lyli, such wisdom in this post. May we grow more like our God & speak words of affirmation and encouragement to one another always. Beautiful reminder!
Lyli, I remember reading this my first year in teaching (did we decide to read this together?). Totally floored me! Remember thinking, “Lord Jesus, thank you for a grandmother who was always pouring these five Biblical elements of blessing into me even before she came to know you as her Savior. God, who misses NOTHING, knew how very badly I needed them. And for a brother who does the same.” Pulled out my notes and found a note where I committed to this as a possible future mother (?), a future aunt (surely), and as a teacher–even wrote on the bottom that God would give me a few special “little ones” who would become so woven into my heart that i could not love them more had I birthed them myself. God has been faithful in honoring that prayer–as you know, it hasn’t always been easy but i dearly love my “little ones” and am in touch with each of them to this day (as I know are you with yours). In fact, one of them goes by “Little One”.
Thanks for affirmation of the commitment made as a young woman and first year teacher.
Thank you also, for always challenging me. Much Love! xoxo
A good word, Lyli. If only this would happen in every child’s life, our world would be a very different place. Praying scripture is powerful, great list! Praying for more ears to listen and hearts to understand in our country today. Have a blessed weekend!
I read that book years ago too, Lyli. Valuable words then and now. Thanks for the reminder that we can bless others in a variety of ways even online. You bless me through your words each week.
Hi Lyli! I read The Blessing years ago–1988, the year my daughter was born. Broke me to pieces and brought healing in my own relationship with my dad. I’ve always remembered these blessing points. Try to make them a part of my life like breathing.
Joy!
