Aflame

Last Friday, the hubs and I jumped in the car and headed out to see the fireworks with another couple. We found a cozy spot a while back that is away from the crowds. We get there early, plop down our lawn chairs, and chat as we wait for night to fall.
I keep an eye on the clock and on the sky. Never once have I looked up at the horizon and doubted that a spectacular display of fire power is coming. That would be crazy, right? On July 4th, I expect a blaze of glory.
Tonight, I was reading in the Psalms, and my heart stopped when I read
Every morning
I lay out the pieces of my life
on Your altar
and watch for fire to descend.Psalms 5:3, MSG
I am asking God to help me wait expectantly for His fireworks. I don’t want to be that silly girl on the ground who misses the glory because she is impatiently waving around a self-sufficient lighter. I want to keep looking up until the blazing light rains down on me.
Lord, I want to be aflame.
May He set us aflame, His light shining through us! Thanks for the beautiful post & for hosting & God bless!
Yes! So glad you are here, Laurie. 🙂
That is an incredibly uplifting verse! I love it. And yes, it’s particularly encouraging right now when many days I feel like my *pilot light* is barely on. I want to be aflame, too.
GOD BLESS!
All that holiness and glory coming down — may I never forget that it’s not just an Old Testament thing. He is the same today.
Lyli, I am so glad you shared that verse from the Message paraphrase. It’s amazing!
I am glad you loved it as much as I did, Elizabeth. The image it conveyed has really encouraged my spirit.
Wow…what an image…thanks, Lyli 🙂
He is awesome.
Love your metaphor! Reading the Psalms in The Message is incredible, isn’t it?
I am so happy to be joining the party again this week. Thanks very much for hosting!
Yay! Welcome back, Richella. 🙂
Lyli, I love the verse from The Message. Since reading your post earlier, I have been looking at the verse which immediately came to mind & thought I would share it with you …
“Who among you fears the Lord & obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord & rely on his God. “(Isaiah 50:10) You are so right, we can set our own fire but at what a great cost. May we be patient to wait for His blaze. Blessings today!
Thanks for sharing that, Joanne. It reminds me of that verse in Psalms 139 that says darkness is light to Him.
Hi Lyli! That’s a great insight, and I can just see you sitting in your chair, waiting for the dark and the light. I want fireworks too! I read somewhere that the key to a good life is passion. No passion = no life. That’s always stuck with me, and your idea of being ‘aflame’ reminds me of that.
Thank you for a change to link up! Have a blessed Thursday,
Ceil
I agree, Ceil. And the thing about passion is that it can’t be manufactured. The real thing comes from basking in His presence. I am picturing Moses coming down from the mountain and having to veil his face. I hope my face will reflect that I have been with Him.
I want to wait EXPECTANTLY for His fireworks, too! Thank you for being such a delightful, encouraging host!
Yes, this verse has encouraged me in the waiting. It’s not just waiting, but it’s how I wait…
Thank you Lyli. Made me stop and think today. Doesn’t God supply everything!
He does! Why, why, why do I doubt?
That’s a great analogy, Lyli. We expect humans to come through for us on July 4; why not expect the same of God every day? What a beautiful verse, Ps 5:3.
Thanks, Lisa. I am praying for God to give me better eyes of faith.
His Spirit just exudes from this post, friend! Oh how I have been the “jumping up and down” one holding tightly to my lighter…yet, failing to look up, wait…and missing the fireworks of His glory!
A visual I will hold close in my thoughts, all day! Thanks Lyli!
He is so patient with us. 🙂
Blessings, Lyli! A good Word for today and great visual. May my little light always step aside for the glories of His fireworks in my life.
Joy!
Kathy
Amen, my sister.
What a beautiful verse — I didn’t recognize it at all, so I looked it up. The NIV version is, um, a lot more boring and definitely not as poetic. I enjoy looking at them both side by side and drawing wisdom from each.
Every morning, you know? I don’t start the day, the feet don’t hit the floor, without my last thought before getting OUT of bed is, “God, get me through this day. Guide me. Walk with me.”
I read it in the NIV as well — and wrote both translations into my journal.
I agree, Aflame me too Lord!!! (: swinging by from the weekend brew, blessings xo
Madelain, so lovely to connect with you through Barbie’s link up!
I loved the thought of NOT waving a self-sufficient lighter! Beautiful imagery for a visual minded person. Aflame by God for God. Amen.
I am glad that that resonated with you. I need to put my own torch down in order to leave room for Him.
