4 Reasons Your Soul Should Sing
I hate it when my friends cry. My girls are fighters, but sometimes constantly carrying your sword onto the battlefield gets even the fiercest sword slayer weary.
The enemy of our soul wants to trick us into thinking that all hope is lost. He whispers in the dark: Hang up your sword. You will never win.
But if you slow down and lift your heart to heaven, you will hear your Savior sweetly singing victory over your life.
Even on the darkest nights, God can birth a song in your heart if you tune in and really listen to His love song.
You, my friend, are a songbird. Your life was created to sing His praises.
Emily Dickinson penned a poetic anthem for serenading nightingales like you and me. It’s one of my favorites, and I wanted to share it with you tonight:
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
Sisters, I want to remind you that God’s hope never leaves you. You may feel battered by the storms of life at this moment, but you still have so many reasons to sing.
4 Reasons Your Soul Should Sing
God’s love never fails
You are walled in by God’s love. Nothing can penetrate His shield to destroy you.
Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone. (Psalm 33:22, NLT)
God’s comfort is coming
God is willing to step into your pain. Remember His love is already written in red.
Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. God’s love never fails you. (Psalm 10:17, NLT)
God faithfully answers your prayer
Your wonder working God will always win the day. Your salvation is sure.
You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our Savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas. (Psalm 65:5, NLT)
God overflows redemption
God is in the business of restoration. One day you will look back and see the beauty He birthed in this season.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. (Psalm 130:7, NLT)
God’s hope syncopates your soul and helps you sing in the storm.

Thanks, Lyli. This is beautiful truth.
Lyli, thanks for the refreshing and encouraging words this morning!
Lyli, this post is so beautiful and timely. I am going to share it on FB and Twitter. Can’t wait to meet you at She Speaks!
Sarah, you are such a sweet friend. Looking forward to giving you a hug in person. Yay!
Tho I don’t like the blues or a season of lackluster faith and hope, I like the results of each/both: they remind me of where my hope and faith lie. And that’s a good thing. (I’m wondering if dear Emily D. knew the Lord?)
I hope she did, Sue. Her poem has really encouraged me over the years.
Lyli, this is beautiful and the truth I needed to read at this time. Our God always gives us reason to sing!
Oh, I am happy to hear that, friend! Are you familiar with the worship team called All Sons and Daughters? They have a song title “Reason to Sing” that I went to bed humming last night. Bruce and I love their music.
And, I’ve said this a “few” times… #hopechangeseverything
Amen, powerful encouragement today, Lyli! Bless you!
Interesting – I wrote about singing this week as well, but from a totally different angle! It’s a huge topic in the Bible, and I was blessed by your thoughts. That poem by Dickinson is one of my favorites of hers.
My heart sings, but my voice is not that good. HaHa. I still love to sing alone. I enjoyed your verses and your post. I save them to my favorite verses and on Pinterest. Thank you.
Thanks, Maree Dee. We can make a joyful noise even if we are a little off key. 🙂
Always enjoying reading your words! Much needed this morning! I’m singing today! 🙂
Love you, Martha!
AMEN! Timely words for me. Blessings!
Thanks for hosting!
I love the word picture that you painted – that we are like God’s songbirds singing His praises!
